Nayagarh,(Baghuabarta): India will chair the UN Security Council on Monday. According to the Foreign Ministry, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the Security Council on “maritime security”. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., via video conferencing. The meeting will focus on cooperation in combating and preventing maritime crime. Modi will be the first Prime Minister of India to chair the Security Council meeting. No Indian prime minister has ever chaired the Security Council. The meeting will be attended by leaders and representatives of various countries. India has been chairing the UNSC since August 1, following a series of changes. India’s presidency will last for a month. The Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Iran, that it monitor Iran’s compliance with “the steps required by the IAEA Board”. India has been a permanent member of the Security Council for only two years. The membership expires on January 1, 2021.
